The trip will take you through three rivers and three lakes with the beautiful northern Michigan scenery you would expect. All about the Crooked River Lock

Crooked River Locks

Along the Inland Waterway that stretches from Crooked River to Lake Huron there are 2 locks. We talked about the Cheboygan River Lock a couple of weeks ago, this week we discover the Crooked River Lock. The lock was built by the Army Corp of Engineers to allow for passage between Crooked Lake and Crooked River. There were two things I knew about Drummond Island before I actually visited the island. That Drummond Island Resort had a golf course called The Rock that was supposed to be a lot of fun to play and that they had a lot of off-road trails. Everyone has heard of the Soo Locks in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, but did you know there are locks in the Northern Lower Peninsula? The Cheboygan River Locks. Cheboygan River is home to “the little lock that can.” The lock serves thousands of boaters each year with access to and from Lake Huron to about 45 miles inland. The Cheboygan River Lock can accommodate boats up to 16-feet wide and 75-feet long leaving only six inches on either side.
