Family, Fun, and Lots of Laughs!
There’s nothing quite like a Northern Michigan summer, and when family comes to visit, it’s the perfect excuse for a staycation! With Patrick, Lauren, Annabella, and Brayden traveling in from Virginia, and Alex & Danielle coming from downstate, those of us living here in Northern Michigan decided to make the most of their visit with a whirlwind of adventures, laughter, and quality time together.
A Hands-On Adventure at Cognition
Our staycation kicked off with a trip to Cognition, a hands-on science and discovery center that had something for everyone. The kids loved playing with the animals, exploring the interactive exhibits, and trying their hand at virtual reality car racing. We may have some future race car drivers in the family—or at least some very enthusiastic crash-test dummies!
Pontoon Party on Long Lake
Next up, we hit the water! We loaded up the pontoon and set sail on Long Lake, making a stop at Long Island for some sun, sand, and relaxation. Jeff, Arianna, and the teen grandkids—Angelyn, Maddie, and Ryker—joined in on the fun, while Patrick, Lauren, Annabella, and Brayden enjoyed the beautiful scenery. Even Puppers the Doodle got in on the action, happily romping around the island like he owned the place.
Jet Skis and More on Lake Leelanau
Because one lake day just wasn’t enough, we took the pontoon and jet skis out on Lake Leelanau. Patrick and Annabella were all about the jet skis, zipping across the water with big smiles and even bigger splashes. There’s just something about the thrill of the ride that makes you feel like a kid again—whether you’re actually a kid or just a kid at heart.
Trail Riding with Uncle Jeff
For even more adventure, Uncle Jeff took Annabella and Brayden trail riding on his property in the Ranger. They bounced along wooded paths, taking in the sights and sounds of nature while enjoying the excitement of the ride. The kids loved every minute, grinning ear to ear as they sped through the trails, making memories they won’t soon forget.
A Toast to the Ladies
While the kids and guys kept busy playing on the water, the adult ladies—Ronessa, Lauren, and Arianna—treated themselves to a relaxing winery tour. There’s no better way to enjoy the beauty of Northern Michigan than with a glass of local wine in hand, great company, and a vineyard view that stretches for miles. Cheers to good times and great wine!
A Full House and Full Hearts
This staycation wasn’t just about the activities—it was about time spent together. From Guy and me holding down home base to our adult kids and grandkids bonding, laughing, and making memories, it was truly a special time for all of us.
To top it all off, Arianna put together an incredible charcuterie spread for the whole family to enjoy. There’s nothing like gathering around a table full of delicious snacks, sharing stories, and making memories that will last a lifetime.
Our Northern Michigan staycation reminded us that you don’t have to travel far to create unforgettable moments. With family, laughter, and a little adventure, home in Northern Michigan can be the best vacation spot of all!
