Six must visit scenic overlooks in Northeast Michigan

Northeast Michigan offers several beautiful scenic overlooks where you can enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. Here are some notable spots to visit:

Old Presque Isle Lighthouse

Located near Presque Isle, this historic lighthouse offers a stunning view of Lake Huron and the surrounding area. You can climb to the top of the lighthouse for a panoramic vista.

Situated along the Lake Huron shoreline near Rogers City, this state park features a network of hiking trails that lead to scenic overlooks. From these vantage points, you can enjoy sweeping views of Lake Huron, sand dunes, and diverse wildlife. Trail Map.

Huron-Manistee National Forest

Northeast Michigan is home to parts of the Huron-Manistee National Forest, which offers numerous scenic spots. The Huron-Manistee National Forests are two separate national forests. The Huron National Forest and the Manistee National Forest. They were combined in 1945 for administrative purposes. The Lumberman’s Monument Visitor Center, near Oscoda, provides a fantastic view of the Au Sable River from an elevated observation deck. Trail Maps

Harrisville State Park

Located in Harrisville, this park boasts a beautiful beach area and a scenic overlook known as Sturgeon Point. From the top of the Sturgeon Point Lighthouse, you can admire panoramic vistas of Lake Huron and the surrounding countryside. Trail Map

Negwegon State Park

Situated near Alpena, this secluded park offers rugged trails that lead to unspoiled, sandy beaches. As you hike through the park, you’ll encounter picturesque dunes and forested areas with opportunities for scenic views. The park is also home to a designated dark sky preserve. Rockport State Recreation Area

This park, near Alpena, features a unique fossil-rich limestone quarry and an observation platform. From the platform, you can witness the crystal-clear waters of Lake Huron and the submerged shipwrecks below. Trail Map

Marisa Fancy along with her husband and four children dreamt of moving “Up North”. They had vacationed for years in northern Michigan and in 1995 they finally made the move.

The family was always out exploring, but with 4 kids there was some limitations on what they could do. Marisa discovered the amazing network of trails in Northern Michigan after Steve died and she would walk for miles. The trails provided her with peace, comfort and solitude at a difficult time in her life. Later, after meeting Guy who would become her second husband, she learned to golf and found another passion she could enjoy in beautiful Northern Michigan.
