Ethanology – Elk Rapids

All spirits are crafted in Elk Rapids using ingredients from family-owned farms. They offer vodka, gin, and whiskey. Make sure to stop by and say hi to Mabel and Sofi, the distillery dogs.

Foggy Mountain Spirits Company – Boyne Falls

Hand crafted spirits from a long line of Northern Michigan family traditions. They offer vodka, gin, and rum. In addition, they have several flavored whiskeys, some expected and some like Kettle Corn a pleasant surprise. They also offer a line of whiskey, bourbon and rum called Northern Xposure using advanced distilling and barrel aging techniques.

Furnace Street Distillery – Elberta

A small bath distillery located in the dunes of Lake Michigan. They offer traditional liquor like rum, vodka, gin, bourbon, and agave. Furnace Street Distillery also has specialty spirits crafted from Agave, peppers, fruits, and other spices. They also offer a coffee liqueur that is worth tasting.

Multiple locations in Northern lower Michigan. They are known for its handcrafted spirits, Grand Traverse Distillery has a tasting room in Traverse City, where visitors can sample their vodkas, whiskeys, rums, gins, and other spirits. They focus on using locally sourced ingredients and have won numerous awards for their products.

High Five Spirits/Gypsy Distillery – Bay Harbor

Located in the former Bay Harbor Equestrian Center and is the largest operating distillery under 1 roof in Michigan. They offer craft cocktails made with High Five Spirts as well as the Gypsy line.

Iron Fish Distillery – Thompsonville

Located on a farm in Thompsonville in Benzie County. Iron Fish Distillery is known for its small-batch, grain-to-glass spirits. They produce vodka, whiskey, rum, and gin, using locally grown grains and traditional distilling methods.

Mammoth Distilling – Central Lake

Multiple locations throughout Northwest Michigan and in Southern Michigan. Mammoth Distilling offers a wide range of spirits, including bourbon, whiskey, gin, vodka, and seasonal specialties. They focus on using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible.

Muskrat Distilling – Boyne City

In a restored 1890’s building and named after the muskrats they would see swimming in the Boyne River that flows behind their building. They offer prohibition era cocktails as well as the classics. They offer their aged rum, gin, vodka, and bourbon for sale by the bottle at The Muskrat.

Northern Latitudes Distillery – Lake Leelanau

Two locations on the Leelanau Peninsula. Northern Latitudes Distillery produces a variety of spirits, including vodka, gin, rum, whiskey, and fruit brandies. They have a tasting room where visitors can try their products.

Hand crafted and locally produced spirits and cocktails on the Old Mission Peninsula. They offer gin, vodka, whiskey, and bourbon.

Traverse City Whiskey Co. – Traverse City

Specializing in whiskey, Traverse City Whiskey Co. also offers vodka and gin. They have a tasting room in downtown Traverse City, providing visitors with the opportunity to taste their spirits and learn about their distilling process.

Distilleries of Northeast Michigan

Northeast Michigan is known for its natural beauty and charming towns. While there may be smaller distilleries or new ones that have opened since my last knowledge update in September 2021, here are some distilleries located in Northeast Michigan.

Copper Kettle Distilling – Prudenville

Rock glass cocktail. Northern Michigan DistilleriesHandcrafted spirits just off the shore of Houghton Lake. They offer spiced rum, white rum, sour mash whiskey, gin, and rum. In addition, they offer several liqueurs that are sure to please.

Hopside Brewery and Distillery – Alpena

All their spirits are made in house in their 50-gallon copper pot still. They have offer vodka, gin, spiced rum, corn whiskey and agave. They also have mixers created in the house. Besides being a distillery, they are also a brewery and have a selection of their own brews.

Distilleries are fairly new to the Northeast part of the state. Additionally, new distilleries may have emerged in the region since my last update.
